The Net Galley Challenge

Do you read books from NetGalley?  I know a lot of us do.  I'm sure there are many of us, who have several books from NetGalley in our libraries!!!!

When I saw this challenge post on Live De Amour, I knew it was one for me! I am a proud reader of NetGalley books!!!!

Here are the levels in the challenge:
  • 1-5 books-Puny Reader
  • 5-15 books-Only Read When Necessary
  • 16-25-Average Net Gallery Reader
  • 26-50-Might Have A Problem
  • 51-75-Getting Addicted
  • 75 or More-You Need Help and Your An Addict
I read 3 NetGalley books in January.  So, I think I will shoot for at least the "Might Have a Problem" level (attempting to read approximately 3 a month).  I believe I can handle that much.  Do I have a problem - you betcha!!!  I love to read, and NetGalley is just another great source to feed my addiction - reading.  In exchange I review those books - what a great trade-off!! - We both help each other!!!

If you want to get in on this one, check out the post on Live De Amour:  NetGalley Challenge

Red House Books also has a NetGalley Challenge Posted.  They have 4 levels:

Blue Star - read 1-10 NetGalley Books in 2012

Green Star - read 11-20 NetGalley Books in 2012

Red Star - read 21-30 NetGalley Books in 2012

Gold Star - read 30+ NetGalley Books in 2012

So, in going with the 3 a month that I decided above, that will put in in Gold Star level!

The 2012 "New Adult" Challenge!

Well, I found yet another challenge - one I felt too compelling to pass up.

The "new adult" challenge involves reading books with protagonists in their late teens or early twenties, post-graduation, fending for themselves in the adult world they have been pushed into.  The books can be of any genre, so you are able to mix it up some.

There are 4 levels in this challenge:

  • Just Graduated: read a minimum of 3 New Adult books
  • Moving Out: read a minimum of 6 New Adult books
  • Living On Your Own: read a minimum of 9 New Adult books
  • Fully Independent: read every single New Adult book you can get your hands on.
I am committing to read at least 6 books, so I am "Moving Out" - love these names.

If you want to give this one a try, you can find out more about it on A Tapestry of Words blog.

Time Travel Reading Challenge 2012

What a wonderful topic for a challenge.  And, what makes it even better is that I have read a few books already this year with just this topic - time travel.

This challenge is hosted by Library of Clean Reads.  For this challenge, you must read books on the topic of time travel and commit to a number of books to read.  There are 4 levels to this challenge:

    1. Surprise Trip: 1 to 3 time travel books.
    2. Great Adventure: 4 to 6 time travel books.
    3. Fantastic Journey: 7 to 9 time travel books
    4. Mind-boggling Voyage: 10 to 12 time travel books.

    Completely Contemp Challenge 2012

I read contemporary novels along with everything else, so why not include more in my year.  I am already signed up to read YA Contemporary in another challenge - those to be published this year.  The twist on this challenge is that you select a number between 1 - 99 and that is the number of contemporary books you read from books published in each year (2010, 2011, 2012).  The minimum number should be 3 total books read.  I am going to go for 3 each year - for a total of 9 contemporary books to read.

    2012 The Color-Coded Reading Challenge

The Color-Coded Reading Challenge I thought was quite different from others I have seen.  This one is a real challenge, kind of a puzzle if you will.

Here is how it works - You read 9 books with the following criteria:

    1. A book with "Blue" in the title
    2. A books with "Red" in the title
    3. A book with "Yellow" in the title
    4. A book with "Green" in the title
    5. A book with "Brown" in the title
    6. A books with "Black" in the title
    7. A book with "White" in the title
    8. A book with any other color in the title (Purple, Orange, Turquoise, Pink, Magenta, etc.)
    9. A book with a word that implies color (Rainbow, Polka-dot, Plaid, Paisley, Stripe, etc.)
This doesn't sound too complicated does it?  I actually already have a "Blue" book in mind:  Blue Sky Days by Marie Landry.  This book is set to debut on January 17, 2012 - check out the Ramblings of a Daydreamer blog for blog tour information.  (Note:  It was released early to Amazon and Smashwords, so you can find it there).

    2012 YA Contemporary Challenge!

YA Contemporary fiction is something that I read off and on.  I think this will be a great addition to my dozen or so challenges that I have signed up for.  I am already reading one novel to add to this one:  Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Whitaker.

The YA Contemporary Challenge has three levels:

                1. 5 books
                2. 10 books
                3. 15 books
I am going to shoot for midway and say level 2 - 10 books.  I think I can hit that mark easily.

    1. The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Whitaker
    2. ?
    3. ?
    4. ?
    5. ?
    6. ?
    7. ?
    8. ?
    9. ?
    10. ?

You can read any YA Contemporary novel that is published in 2012 - and they must be read in 2012.  They provide a list (in spreadsheet form and also on Goodreads) on the challenge page, so you can go check it out for and idea of books to read.

    2012 YA Historical Fiction Challenge

Since I am already committing myself to read historical fiction - which is a wonderful genre, I thought I'd add Young Adult historical fiction as well.

The YA Historical Fiction Reading Challenge has 2 levels, You can commit to reading 5, 10, or 15 YA or MG historical fiction books.  I am going to plan on reading 5 in this category for Level 1.

Come join the fun & visit the YA Bliss blog:

    2012 Sophomore Reading Challenge

Interesting!  Never would have thought of this one.  I have heard of debut novels, but never game much mind to  sophomore books (the second book published by an author).  As the challenge host states, what an awesome way to support and up and coming author - reading their debut is wonderful, but their second book even better!

The Sophomore Reading Challenge is a commitment to read 10 Sophomore Young Adult or Middle Grade novels in 2012.  I want to give this a whirl.  Are you going to join me?

You can check out the details of this challenge at the Chick Loves Lit blog:

    2012 Sophomore Reading Challenge

Mystery & Suspense Reading Challenge 2012

Now this is a challenge right up my alley.  I read quite a bit of mystery & suspense novels.  This is just what makes my mind tick.

The Mystery & Suspense Reading Challenge has 2 levels.  You can read either 12 or 24 mystery & suspense novels.  I am going for just 12 to start.  We'll see where we fall by year's end.

If you want more information on this challenge, visit the Book Chick City blog:

Mystery & Suspense Reading Challenge 2012

    Speculative Romance Challenge 2012

Did you love the Twilight series as much as I did?  That is just what this challenge is all about - romance of the "speculative" kind.  I'm very interested in finding other books of this nature - not that it should be difficult - I have seen so many of them out there.  I just need to pick some up and read them.

Possible genres that could be included here:
    • Paranormal Romance
    • Dark Fantasy Romance
    • Urban Fantasy Romance
    • Steampunk Romance
    • Sci-fi Romance
    • Apocalyptic Romance

Many of these are genres I never thought I would really like, but hey - it's worth a try.  I didn't think I would like Twilight, but I loved it!

There are 4 levels to the Speculative Romance Challenge:
    1. One Sexy Demon:  Read 6 Speculative Romance novels
    2. Two Sexy Werewolves:  Read 12 Speculative Romance novels
    3. Three Sexy Vampires:  Read 18 Speculative Romance novels
    4. Four Sexy Archangels:  Read 24 Speculative Romance novels
Again, I am playing it small;  I am going for the One Sexy Demon level, and will commit to reading 6 Speculative Romance novels.

    New Author Challenge 2012

Finding new authors to me shouldn't be too hard.  I do have favorites that I read over and over, but I am always finding authors that do not ever remember reading.  I don't think it will be too much of a challenge to find new authors to me, but you never know.  If I get stuck wanting to read specific books, they just might be the same author.  So to help me along, I am signing up for the New Author Challenge.

This challenge is not to be confused with a debut author challenge, although they can be the same.  However, there are many authors that are not debuting this year that I have never read.

This challenge has 3 levels.  You can choose to read 15, 25, or 50 new authors.  I will only be signing up for 15 books.  I know I will hit more, but I think I will start small.

Want some suggestions for Authors:  Author websites

To read more about this challenge visit:  New Author Challenge 2012.

Horror & Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge 2012

Talk about stretching myself - the Horror & Urban Fantasy Reading Challenge will surely do that.  I do read horror, but urban fantasy not so much.  This one will be one that I will have to push myself, yet I am excited to read new stuff.  I have never been afraid to try new genres of books, so I know I will find something to read.

There are 2 levels to this challenge:

    1. Read 24 Horror or Urban Fantasy books
    2. Read 48 Horror or Urban Fantasy books.
I will be only be committing to 24 books.

    2012 Debut Author Challenge!

What a neat challenge.  There are challenges out there for everything!  This one is for 2012 Debut Authors of Young Adult (YA) or Middle Grade (MG) books.  Sounds like a good time to me.  New authors deserve to be recognized, and what better way than this.

This challenge is to read at least 12 YA or MG  Debut Authors from 2012.  You must sign up by May 31, 2012.

Go check out the challenge for yourself.  You might find some great reads.

100 Books in a Year Reading Challenge 2012

The 100 Books in a Year Reading Challenge 2012 will defintely be a challenge for me.  I had originally set my goal for the year to be 50+, but I think I will reassess that and shoot for 100+.  Why not?

The 100 Books in a Year Reading Challenge 2012 that I have seen posted on so many blogs inspired me.  So I am going to go for it.  I already have 2 1/2 done and it is January 6, so I am off to a good start!

    2012 TBR PILE Reading Challenge

Do you have any books piling up - purchased or given to you with the intention on reading them someday?  Oh, come on, we all have those piles somewhere.  I have shelved - and boxes - full of books.  Since buying my Nook Color, I have even more - all those free books that are out there, and others that looked/sounded good, that I downloaded.

I have decided to add the 2012 TBR Pile Reading Challenge to my list of challenges this year (it is growing - but still manageable).  I want to dust off those books and shelves, so I can make room for more!  I know I'm going to get more!!!!!  I already have!

To qualify for this challenge, the books have to have been released in 2011 or earlier.
There are 5 levels to the challenge:

    1. A Firm Handshake - 1-10 books
    2. A Friendly Hug - 11-20 books
    3. A Sweet Kiss - 21-30 books
    4. Love At First Sight - 31-40 books
    5. Married With Children - 41-50 books
I am going to give A Firm Handshake for now.  I will read more, but not sure right now if they will be older ones or not!!!
