Top Ten Tuesday (5)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme hosted by  The Broke and the Bookish.  Each week we are given a new theme in which to post a top ten list.

This week:  Top 10 Books I'd Hand to Someone Who Says They Don't Like To Read
  1. Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer - Don't let the size scare you.  I have seen many self-proclaimed non-readers in our middle school (both girls & boys) pick these books up and fall in love with them and the characters & insist on reading the whole series.
  2. The Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset by This is another series that went like crazy in our school.  With the upcoming movie, the fire for this set of books has been rekindled!!
  3. Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling - Very much like Twilight.  These books were controversial & just darn good!!!  Everyone had to pick them up.
  4. Cinder by Marissa Meyer - Fairy-tale retellings are wonderful.  A non-reader could have something to connect to (prior-knowledge) so the books are easier to stay hooked.  Cinder is a great mix of fairy-tale and science fiction.
  5. The Help by Kathryn Stockett - Books that are in the movies seem to draw quite a bit of attention.  This book has that, however, it is wonderful in it's own regard!
  6. The Christmas Bus Melody Carlson - Christmas themed books are wonderful to read.  They just put you right in the spirit!!  This one was a freebie when I got it - Well worth it!!!
  7. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson - Such a powerful story.  Everyone should read something with this kind of impact!
  8. Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder - I still remember reading this book and the rest of the series - not to mention watch the show!  What a great heart-warming series.
  9. The BFG by Roald Dahl - This book is so fun to read.  Roald Dahl is very creative - a simple story that includes some great humor - very light-hearted!!
  10. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle - one of my first science fiction books.  My 6th grade teacher read this to us.  Very creative.  This is the 50th Anniversary year for this book!!!
I'd love to hear your recommendations.  Share your link in the commnents section, or leave me the name of a book you would recommend.

  1. I can't believe I haven't read The BFG yet! It's been on my list for years, and this TTT is reminding me... I keep seeing it everywhere, including here, of course. Nice list!
