GoodReads Catch-Up Read-a-Thon

I love read-a-thons!  I have actually only participated in one so far this year, but had a blast.  I ran across this read-a-thon while catching up on blog posts, and was pumped!  It came at a great time!
So far I am 3 books ahead on my Goodreads goal of 100 books.  I have finished 17 books so far this year.  Although I am ahead, I don't want to see myself fall behind, so I need to get myself far enough ahead, and what better time than to hit this read-a-thon hard and starting out with the weekend!!!  This read-a-thon actually runs from February 24 - March 1, 2012, so it is a good amount of time to get something done.

My goal for this read-a-thon is 3 books - finish the one I am reading plus 2 more:
  1. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
  2. Caller ID by Rachelle J. Christensen
  3. Blood Oath by T.L. Clarke
Come join in on the fun.  There will be mini-challenges throughout the week  and you can enjoy some alone time with a great book - or several!

How Many Pages are in Your TBR Pile?

While blog hopping & reading this morning, I found an interesting post by Jean @ Finding Your Gibbee.  Evidently, she had come across a post on The Towering Pile, where the blogger had sorted her TBR pile by the number of pages – book length.  Some interesting statistics!  So, in keeping with both of their posts, I thought I’d do a similar sort.

Total books on my TBR list on Goodreads (and I know some are missing) = 301

<200                              9 books
200-299                        74 books
300-399                        125 books
400-499                        55 books
500-599                        7 books
600-699                        4 books
700-799                        1 book
800-899                        2 books
Unknown # of pages      24 books

It looks like the majority of my books fall between 300-500 pages.  If I were to use 400 as an average and estimate the number of pages to read on my TBR list, I would be reading approximately 120,000 pages by the time I were done.  WOW!  I had not even thought about something like that.  That is a bunch of pages!!!  And to think, I am constantly adding books to the list.
Looks like I need to get reading to get caught up. My goal this year is to read at least 100 books.  So, again, using my 400 page average, that is = 40,000 pages.  That means I should read about 3333 pages each month.  I have already read 8 of my books, and using the number of pages provided by Goodreads, I have already read 3139 pages this year!!!!!!  I’m off to a good start!

So, what are your statistics?

2012 Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge

Another Challenge!!!!!!!!!!!!

This challenge is what my 2012 reading goal is all about.  I probably only read a handful of books in 2011, so this challenge will not be too difficult for me this year.  It is not something that is really - in addition to - the other challenges, other than a name really.  Just completing the other challenges will put in above last year as it is.  So this challenge should be wrapped up pretty quick this year.

There are 4 levels to this challenge:

  1. Getting my heart rate up - read 1-5 more books
  2. Out of breat - read 6-10 more books
  3. Breaking a sweat - read 11-15 more books
  4. I'm on fire! - read 16+ more books
My goal is "Out of Breath".  I think I can manage 6 - 10 more since I didn't read much last year.

I am keeping track of books read on Goodreads, so that I have an accurate accounting of my reading.  I can't wait to see what my tally is in December.

If you want to outdo yourself in 2012, join the challenge yourself!!!

Stand Alone Challenge

OK, another challenge - but hey, the year is just begun!!!!!

The idea with this challenge - the Standalone Reading Challenge -  is to read 15 young-adult stand-one books.  What is a stand-alone book?  These are books that are not part of a series.  I do like series books, but stand-alones are fine by me too!

They provided a list of books to pick from on Goodreads - Standalone book list.  If you haven't checked out Goodreads, you really should, it is a great place to get book reviews and to give them (but that is another blog post down the road).

The 15 I picked from the list (tentative mine you!) are as follows:

  1. Fracture by Megan Miranda
  2. Struck by Jennifer Bosworth
  3. Above by Leah Bobet
  4. Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler
  5. Touched by Cyn Balog
  6. Something Like Normal by Trish Doller
  7. Trafficked by Kim Purcell
  8. Forbidden by Syrie James
  9. Irises by Francisco X. Stork
  10. One for the Murphys by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
  11. The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Whitaker
  12. The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth
  13. The Raft by S.A. Bodeen
  14. Cracked by K.M. Walton
  15. Fractured Light by Rachel McClellan
I'm looking forward to my challenges.  Here's to a great year of reading!!!!
